Description
Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sukhothai period, ca. 13th century CE. A fine pottery pitcher known as a kendi presenting a bulbous body, a slanted shoulder, a tapered neck, and a rolled rim, all sitting upon a circular base. A tubular, curved spout projects upward from the shoulder on one side, while a ribbon-form handle connects neck to shoulder edge on the other. A rich glaze in a hue of chocolate brown envelopes the top two-thirds of this ancient vessel. Note the rich marine deposits throughout the piece - a lovely benefit from centuries spent on the ocean floor! Size: 7.9" Diameter x 6.1" H (20.1 cm x 15.5 cm)
