Remembered for his explorations in Africa, Henry Stanley is best-known for finding the Scottish missionary explorer David Livingstone who had been assumed lost. His African explorations led to numerous, popular books recounting his adventures and discoveries. While In Darkest Africa is his most famous, My Kalulu became an important account of the life of Kalulu – an African slave-child, adopted by Stanley after he was given his freedom. Sadly, Kalulu died in a canoe accident on the Congo River at a location now called the Kalulu Falls.
