According to sources such figures represent the original male initiates known as "Matundu" and "Malanda". The initiates later used them as dance sticks during the concluding ceremonies and traditionally are kept as symbols of their endurance and adult status. This Staff has a well handled surface suggesting years of ritual use. Bakongo peoples, DRC/ Congo, Africa. The staff measures 18 inches tall on its custom display stand.
