Description
Federalist era eaglehead officer’s saber with horn grips. Affixed to the center of the blade is small plaque inscribed “Carried in two wars by J. Shravers(?).” The era in which this saber was produced suggests the “two wars” referenced on the plaque might be the War of 1812 and the Seminole War, though it’s possible it was also used during the Civil War. Intriguing weapon that undoubtedly bore witness to a stretch of American history during its unusually long period of use. Measures ~34 inches overall.
