Description
Ancient Greece, Athens (Attic), ca. early 4th century BCE. A wheel-thrown pottery beaked oinochoe of a beautiful form with a squat foot, a carinated piriform body with a tapered conical shoulder, a slender handle arching along the verso, and a narrow, beak-shaped spout projecting along the front. Almost all surfaces save for the interior and beneath the foot are enveloped with lustrous, jet-black glaze that was a signature of fine Attic pottery. Size: 3.25" W x 4.6" H (8.3 cm x 11.7 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report is available to the buyer upon request.

Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection acquired before 2000

Condition
Handle reattached to back of body, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Area of resurfacing to remove an attempt at adding a lady of fashion in the last century. Nicks and light abrasions to spout, body, handle, and base. Nice remains of black pigment throughout. TL drill holes on bottom and inside spout.
