Description
China, circa 206 B.C. - 8 A.D. An extremely rare western Han painted pottery Chimera, the crouching animal showing great dynamism. Socket on back indicates this and another figure once formed pole supports for a set of chimes.
Oxford T.L. report sample no. C100z97 from September 5 2000.
Dimensions: 16 1/2" long x 8 1/2" high
Provenance: Only a handful of these Chimera are known. One near identical example resides in the Chicago Institute of Art.

Condition
Very good condition with apparently little or no restoration except for reattachment of right ear.
