Description
Ancient Greek Gnathia Pottery Prochous Jug , 4th century B.C.E.Greek colony of Apulia, Gnathian Style, named after the town of Ignazia in southeastern Italy, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. Beautiful and graceful pouring vessel for precious oils in deep black glaze painted post-firing in lively shades of red, yellow and white. Design is a traditional grapevine pattern with large grape clusters and tendrils in yellow and white, other bands, scrolling designs and dot patterns. Long graceful handle connecting mid-body with spout. A lovely example Size: Just under 8" H (20.3 cm) Provenance: Private Bay Area Collection
