ENGLISH SILVER LUSTRE CERAMIC LARGE MEDICI LION FIGURE, standing on a rectangular base having one front paw on a ball, tail curled onto back, mouth agape displaying sharp fangs, and protruding tongue. Unmarked. First quarter 19th century. 8 5/8" HOA.

Provenance: From the private collection of Brian Penniston, Miller's Tavern, VA.
Catalogue Note: These lion figures are based on the marble lion statues that stand guard at the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence, Italy.

Condition

Having loss to end of tongue, tail broken and glued, and some scattered wear to lustre decoration.
