Description
Ancient Central Asia, Indus Valley, Harappan / Mohenjo-Daro Civilization, ca. 2700 to 2000 BCE. A wheel-thrown pottery bowl with a petite foot, squat walls, and a flared rim. Encircling the exterior is a pair of zebu bulls with elongated bodies, enormous humps, massive eyes, and gigantic horns. Surrounding the abstract creatures are painted star, linear, and curvilinear motifs, perhaps indicative of elements of the natural world. Size: 4.125" W x 2.75" H (10.5 cm x 7 cm)

This bowl was part of the Ebrahim Rokhsar collection, an esteemed collector with similar pieces gifted to the Brooklyn Museum in his honor.

Condition
Stabilization to 2 large fissures stemming from rim, with light adhesive residue along one fissure, and overpainting along the interior walls of the other. Abrasions and fading to pigment commensurate with age, with expected encrustations, and chips to rim, body, walls, and foot. Nice preservation to 1 full bull and front half of second bull.
