Central Asia, Indus Valley, Harappan/Mohenjo-Daro civilization, ca. 2700 to 2000 BCE. A pair of terracotta Zebu bulls, depicted together, atop an integrated flat, square platform. The bulls appear to be kneeling or possibly standing on short legs. Each is painted with wide, round eyes and stripes around their distinctive humps and backs. The Zebu is the domesticated form of the Asian auroch, who was replaced by the Zebu through selective breeding during this time period.
