Ancient Seas, North America, Ohio & New York, Rochester Shale Formation, Ordovician to Lower Silurian, ca. 425 million years ago. A great collection of trilobite fossils within 4 stone matrices. These prehistoric "sea bugs" are professionally prepared to show off some of their finer details such as eye lobes and spines. The genus of 4 of the trilobites are Flexicalymene, members of this genus are abundant in Ohio and are used as index fossils to help date discoveries. The Rochester shale trilobite is a Trimerus and a large trilobite species, with a shovel like cephalon head and a armored body. Size of largest (Trimerus trilobite): 3" L x 1" W (7.6 cm x 2.5 cm); (matrix): 4.5" L x 5" W (11.4 cm x 12.7 cm)

Active flaking of matrices on all. Stable fissures and repairs to all matrices with visible break lines radiating from trilobites. Slightly enrolled trilobite is reattached to the matrix. Chips and minor nicks to trilobites, but overall well preserved with great details.
