Description
Absolutely superb matched pair of Smith & Wesson Number 2 Army revolvers in their original 1860s retailer French style form fitted velvet lined casing. This box and guns have been together for 146 years. Each gun is excellent approaching mint condition. Each retains 95% original lustrous factory blue finish and the original case color on the hammer and ejector pin. The lower gun (48918) has a blemish in the finish on the center right side of the frame. Otherwise these are void of warts and defects. Serial numbers 48517 and 48918 or more likely 48518. The third digit looks like a 9 but is imperfectly struck and I believe it is probably a 5... making a consecutively numbered pair. The serial numbers place production in 1866 which would allow for them being a gift after the Civil War, or a set of going west guns during the Custer era. The photo of the soldier carrying one of these is clip-art only.
