Item Details
Description
Roman Empire, Eastern Mediterranean, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A lovely glass juglet that is free-blown from translucent glass in verdant hues of turquoise, sage, and pistachio. The bell-shaped body bears a concave base with a smooth pontil scar as well as several pattern-molded vertical ribs, a slender neck, a flared and in-folded rim, and a trail handle arching between the shoulder and rim. Soft layers of iridescence cover the entire vessel. Size: 2.3" W x 3.8" H (5.8 cm x 9.7 cm)

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-Daryl Kulok collection, New York, USA, acquired in the 2000s in Israel

#169052
Condition
Minor abrasions to body, with micro-bubbling within glass matrix, and light weathering film, otherwise intact and very good. Pontil mark on underside of base. A pontil scar or mark indicates that a vessel was free-blown, while the absence of such a mark suggests that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time. Nice iridescence throughout.
