Offered here is a most elaborate Wedgwood Cabinet Plate commemorating the 1976 Bicentennial of American Independence of 1776. This limited edition prestige piece is made with five colors of jasper with a pale blue ground and an abundance of hand applied relief work to include lilac ribbons, cane yellow trophy symbols, sage green mythological scenes, and white rams heads with fruit and floral swags and rim trim. It features in the center the portrait profile bust of America ’s first president, George Washington, in the same high relief of Wedgwood’s the original one modeled in the 18th century. He is framed with a circle gold print that reads, “American Independence Bicentennial 1776-1976”. The backside also shows text…..“in tribute to the men and events that gave birth to a new nation in 1776”. This is plate #176 in a limited production of 300.
