South Asia, India, ca. 19th century CE. A wonderful cast-brass figure depicting a woman or goddess standing with her legs crossed on a hexagonal plinth. Dressed in a knee-length skirt with a long necklace hanging between her breasts, the intriguing figure holds both arms out before her, as her right hand features a vertical drill hole allowing her to hold a cylindrical object. Her stylized visage displays a pair of huge almond-shaped eyes, a pointed nose, and full lips, all beneath an elegant bun. Size: 2.5" W x 5.75" H (6.4 cm x 14.6 cm)
Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired before 2000
