Description
Confederate Currency, 11 Ten Dollar Notes, All War-Dated
11 Ten Dollar Notes, mixed condition, from the Confederate States of America, dated February 17, 1864.
Just prior to the outbreak of the Civil War, the newly formed Confederacy started issuing their own currency. The paper money was not backed by hard assets, but bearers were promised to be repaid after the war, with the government banking on a Southern victory. Production was in no way uniform, and individual states and even cities issued their own money as well.
