Benjamin Harrison TLS Declining Invite to Meet Lord Charles Russell
1p, measuring 8" x 10.5", Berkeley Lodge, Old Forge, New York, dated August 4, 1896. Signed "Benjamin Harrison" and addressed to Francis Rawle, Esq. Typed on personal letterhead, the letter regretfully declines an invitation to attend the meeting at Saratoga for the American Bar Association. Harrison expresses his disappointment at not getting to meet Lord Charles Russell, Lord Chief Justice of England. With flattened mail folds, light toning, and soiling throughout. Boldly signed.
Following his presidency, Harrison traveled the country giving lectures and making appearances in support of William McKinley's presidential campaign. He also served on the Board of Trustees at Purdue University from July 1895 to March 1901.
