Benjamin Harrison Signed Statement as a 22-Year-Old Notary Public
1p, measuring 7.75" x 4.75", Marion County, Indiana, dated October 16, 1855. A statement signed "Benjamin Harrison" as Notary Public of Marion County. The document has flattened folds, edge toning, and light chipping. Boldly signed by Harrison.
Harrison signs the sworn statement of the $1.00 deed. In full:
"It personally comes before me a Notary Public in and for said county, Robert Browning who being duly sworn says that the above is a true statement of the account of Frederick Trucksess due with Craighead & Browning, that the same is firstly due & remains wholly unpaid." With Harrison's blind embossed seal at the lower corner. Docketing present on verso.
The 22-year-old Benjamin Harrison signed this document, having just started his law practice. Harrison had received his Bachelor's degree from Miami University, Oxford Ohio in 1852 and was admitted to the Cincinnati Bar in 1854. He ran his legal practice from 1855 to 1870. Thirty-four years later, Harrison would follow in his grandfather's (William Henry Harrison) footsteps to become President of the United States.
