Description
Amulet. Egypt, Lower Epoch (664-332 BC).Polychrome wood.Measurements: 6 x 2 x 1 cm.Egyptian amulet in the shape of a fish, entirely made of carved and polychrome wood. Amulet is any portable object to which is superstitiously attributed some supernatural virtue: to attract good luck or to assure the protection of its owner (apotropaic effect). Amulets are some of the oldest objects of mankind, since man saw in them the way to escape from the evils that afflicted him, whether physical, moral or spiritual. The first amulets were natural objects, such as stones, carved wood or natural crystals, which were appreciated for their shape, color or rarity. Later, it was decided to possess objects of daily use that, because they had been the property of someone or had been part of an event, were kept because it was assumed that they would have a certain power.
