Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Colima & Mixtec culture, ca. 300 BCE to 1200 CE. This is a beautiful ensemble of 2 wearable necklaces, both comprised of pottery beads, stone, and copper bells from ancient Mexican and Pre-Columbian cultures. The first is a lengthy strand of petite seed, tubular, and disc blackware beads that graduate from the terminal ends to larger beads and a central beige, terracotta spindle whorl from with an incised linear decoration. The other necklace is similarly strung with a balanced arrangement of beads; note the copper spherical bells near the largest bead. The central pendant bead is deeply incised with linear motifs and a hand-drilled suspension hole. These necklaces are strung on modern wires with a lobster clasp! Size (longest necklace): 28" L (71.1 cm); (spindle whorl bead): 0.75" W (1.9 cm); (smaller necklace): 24" L (61 cm)

Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s
