He co-founded the ultra-powerful Bank of California, which dominated mining on the Comstock Lode until the "Bonanza Kings" were able to break that hold. Mills was also co-owner of the Virginia & Truckee Railroad. His net worth in 2021 dollars would be about $15 billion.
