Endorsement reads, in full: "By virtue of this writ to me directed I have seized and taken in Execution the Messuage Land and premises mentioned in the Annexed Inquisition which remains in my hands unsold for want of Buyers so Answers." John Morton (1725-1777) was a delegate to the Continental Congress during the American Revolution and provided a key vote in favor of the Declaration of Independence on behalf of Pennsylvania. He had the distinction of signing the Declaration, and he chaired the committee that wrote the Articles of Confederation though he did not live to see them ratified.
