[SIGNERS]. MORTON, John (1725-1777). Autograph document signed ("John Morton Sheriff"). [Chester County, PA], ca 1766-1759. [With:] WILSON, James. Document signed ("Wilson"), 1776.One page, 5 7/8 x 3 in. Mounted on tan paper, some ink fading, discoloration. Accomplished on the verso of a manuscript legal document. Endorsement reads, in full: "By virtue of this writ to me directed I have seized and taken in Execution the Messuage Land and premises mentioned in the Annexed Inquisition which remains in my hands unsold for want of Buyers so Answers." John Morton (1725-1777) was a delegate to the Continental Congress during the American Revolution and provided a key vote in favor of the Declaration of Independence on behalf of Pennsylvania. He had the distinction of signing the Declaration, and he chaired the committee that wrote the Articles of Confederation though he did not live to see them ratified. [With:] Partly printed warrant for the arrest of Richard Coulter. Docketed and endorsed ("Wilson") on verso. 1776. One page, 8 1/8 x 6 1/2 in. (creased along folds, toned, chipping to edges and corners).James Wilson (1742-1798) is one of few people with the distinction of having signed both the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution.
