With old label to front inscribed, "Robert Morris AE 50/ Chief Financier in the Revolution and signed the Declaration of Independence"; also with inscription verso, "Robert Morris AE 50"; framed.

Provenance

Possible line of descent through Maria Morris (1779-1852), or her sister Elizabeth Nixon (1809-1890) daughters of Robert Morris (1734-1806) and Mary White Morris (1749-1827), thence to Ellen Cora Nixon (1825-1909) who married Edward Waln (1811-1887), to their daughter, Ellen Nixon Waln (1844-1929) who married Charles Custis Harrison (1844-1929), to their son, George Leib Harrison, Jr. (1872-1955) to his daughter, Dorothy Harrison Therman (1917-2008), thence to her son.



Condition report:

7 in. x 5 1/2 in. (frame), nice condition, with some minor discoloration along perimeter, later pencil numeral "2327", frame with loss to veneer along bottom and detached/buckled/cracked veneer to top
