Description
From the 2nd to 8th century, an early Taino grinding pestle probably for maize or corn. Unmistakably phallic the stone a type of speckled granite. East central Dominican Republic coast. 4 1/2 inches long and 2 1/2 at its longest point. Note: True Taino artifacts offered here, are from our core consignor, 60 years spent quietly studying and gathering the largest private collection as can be presently known, over 100 full range of pieces. The divulgence of this fact and info, along with some of the first few pieces offered here and, quite more to be expected in future of these mostly never before seen and never offered examples. Highly unusual, the November 10th, Paris sale of the N.Y. Foy collection by 'big' auction has brought expectations and values up to date. As a new venture strongly acclimated to the customer and realizing we have hardly any followers as of yet, and, sell here without reserve, we trust that modest money now, for any comparison of real value, such as the sale noted above, will eventually bring us the loyal followings and fair and reasonable prices will follow. Taino objects from here are guaranteed as ancient, made and used by them in ancient times.
