Description
**First Time At Auction**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A stunning pair of glass jars that are adorned with marbled hues of gray and white making them appear as though they are sculpted from stone! Each ancient vessel presents a bulbous body, flat shoulder, long, corseted neck, and annular rim, all sitting upon a slightly concave base. Shimmering splashes of iridescence nicely complement their graceful forms. Size (of largest): 1.25" in diameter x 1.625" H (3.2 cm x 4.1 cm)

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection, acquired 1990s; ex-private New York, USA collection

#165999
Condition
Rough pontil scars on base of each. Pontil mark on underside of base. A pontil scar or mark indicates that a vessel was free-blown, while the absence of such a mark suggests that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time. Nicks to rim of taller jar. Otherwise, both are intact and excellent with nice weathering film and beautiful iridescence.
