Description
**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Central Peru, Inca Empire, ca. 1400 to 1532 CE. A fine cast-copper mace head of a discoid form with a central hafting hole. The obverse face slopes gently towards the edge, and the verso is relatively planar. The bottom rim of the hafting hole is folded upwards as if to lock the wooden handle in place. The minimalist design of this weapon suggests it was used on the fields of battle rather than in ceremonial contexts. Size: 4" W x 3.9" H (10.2 cm x 9.9 cm)
Provenance: ex-private Sarasota, Florida, USA collection, before 1965

Light encrustations to surfaces and within hafting hole, with small nicks around edges, otherwise intact and very good. Great patina throughout.
