PROVENANCE:
John Gorse (1945-2020) of Charleston, SC. A business entrepreneurs, private collectors. A retired as senior vice president for legal and regulatory affairs in 1981. After retirement he focused his efforts on revitalizing the local area and philanthropy. His entrepreneurial drive continually motivated him to privately invest in real estate ventures and many other businesses. In addition to his impressive business acumen, he was a man of artistic pursuits, collecting antiques, porcelains, oriental rugs, and artwork of many different genres.

Chinese Ming Dynasty Xuande Blue & white Figurative on Iron Red Porcelain Bowl. The bowls has an open mouth, rounded lip rim slight flaring, thick and large, deep arced body, raised with round foot ring and slight concave. Hand painted ornamentations are rendered in iron red base color which contrast against blue fine color, depicted of elders seat on horse carriage beside fence palace, dense tree, bellow vapors and scrolling ruyi clouds. Red represents fire and is the most popular color in China. It is also the national color representing happiness, beauty, vitality, good luck, success and good fortune. This inadvertently gave texture, energy, and shading to the design.
The Under-base bears a reign mark, a six under glazed blue script characters reign mark, enclosed within double fine blue rings lines. Made in The Years Xuande Reign Period of The Great Ming Dynasty.
