PROVENANCE:
From Private estate collections of David Frederick Boyd, of Marietta, Georgia (1935 - 2018). Served in the United States Army, thereafter, employed by a fortune 500 company and remained there for the rest of his working career. He is admired for Habitat for Humanity activist and a prominent antiques collector, mostly Chinese Antiques and European furniture at his large Victorian house in Georgia.

Chinese Ming Dynasty Period, Blue & white mythical beast barrel box. Potted with a shallow body, slight deep, thick and bulbous body, with angled cavetto elevated the steep sides upward the straight mouth rim, with flat correspondence dome lid, raised from round sides over a wide cavetto Inner flange circumscribed around the containers lip allows for a perfect fitment of the covering, raised on a flat round, with slight concave footing. The exterior decorated with hand-painting in clean white under glazed base color which contrast against the cobalt blue fine color, depicted of Chinese mythical beast above thrashing lishui waves, auspicious ornament and interlocking ruyi clouds. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned.

Mark on base and uder lid, a six under glazed blue script characters reign mark, Made in The Years of Xuande Reign Period of Great Ming Dynasty.
