Each tinted alabaster sculpture depicts St. George on the back of a dragon and holding the dragon's head.
H. 7 1/4 in.
Note: Story is taken from the Jacobus da Varagine's Legenda aurea (The Golden Legend, 1260s), the narrative of Saint George and the Dragon took place somewhere he called "Silene", in Libya and is the main source of the story of Saint George and the Dragon as is known in Western Europe.
Provenance: Western Connecticut Collection, Acquired 1955-1995
