Description
A gilt bronze sculpture. Titled, "St. George Slaying a Dragon," after the carved wood altarpieces produced for the church of the monastery of Champmol in Dijon, France, the original produced before 1399 by Jacques de Baerze (also la Barse) (fl. circa 1380 to 1400). Modeled as a French knight of the 14th century. In jupon with coat of arms, shield and bouche, bascinet helmet, belt and sword, standing over the slain form of a dragon. Incised signature to verso J DE BAERZE. Presented on a trapezoidal form marble base.
Dimensions: 15 X 5.5 X 3.5 in.
Condition: Good overall condition, having average wear, with evidence of verdigris. Estate fresh to the market.
