American, 1897-1930, 21 Presidential appointments, signed by seven U.S. Presidents and Secretaries of State (or acting Secretaries of State), with embossed seal, two William McKinley; two Theodore Roosevelt; one William Howard Taft; five Woodrow Wilson, one also signed by William Jennings Bryan, another by Denmark Prime Minister Erik Scavenius, a single Wilson possibly secretarial; one Warren G. Harding; five Calvin Coolidge; five Herbert Hoover, likely a stamped signature for Hoover on each, most 19 x 23 in. with some slightly smaller; assignments in Cuba and Nova Scotia; program from dinner honoring President Theodore Roosevelt, 1905, hosted by Hungarian Republican Club of New York, signed by Roosevelt on cover and by Toastmaster Marcus Braun at interior, 9-1/2 x 7-1/2 in. Note: John Elwin Kehl (1870-1936) served as an American Consul from 1897 until his retirement in 1932, based primarily in Germany. During this lengthy tenure, the United States saw seven different Executive Branch Administrations, spanning from President McKinley to President Hoover. - Provenance: Private Collection, Asheville, North Carolina
