Item Details
Description
**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Huastec culture, ca. 900 to 1450 CE; West Mexico, Colima and Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A fabulous ensemble of three Pre-Columbian pottery figures; a seated female on a stool from Huastec culture, a standing figure from the ancient Colima, and a smaller seated figure from the Jalisco peoples. Tallest of the three, the Huastec female is shown seated on a stool with her hands on her wide hips as she glares out from slender eyes above a prominent nose, and smiling mouth displaying barred teeth. A knee-length skirt hangs below her narrow waist, incised navel, and pointed breast as a rectangular headdress caps her head, sitting atop short hair and two annular earspools. Next, the Colima figure is formed from grey clay and shown standing with his hands resting together in front of his torso. Size: 3.75" W x 8.4" H (9.5 cm x 21.3 cm)

A sizable headdress towers over his elongated visage bearing coffee bean-shaped eyes, a pointed nose, and a straight mouth, as the rest of his body is heavily adorned with arm bands, a collar necklace, a coaxl (back flap), and an object that hangs on his left side. Last, the Jalisco seated figure is adorned with russet and brown applied pigments that form a lattice, spotted, and striated motifs. Her enormous, triangular nose dominates her blank visage, which is topped by a flared and incised headdress and flanked by butterfly wing-shaped ears. The figure is posed with both stubby legs jutting out before her broad body as she bends her arms at her elbows so her hands can rest just below her petite breasts. A remarkable set of examples from ancient Mexico!

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.
