Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built male pottery figure seated with bent legs and exposed genitalia. The figure presents with a slight forward lean and holds his left arm to his right shoulder while resting his elbow on one knee. Impressed eyes, a prominent aquiline nose, cupped ears with large lobes, and a slit-form mouth constitute the abstract countenance, and the tall forehead is topped with a simple cap. The highly burnished surfaces are adorned with russet-red slip that imbues the figure with the characteristic style of ancient West Mexico. Size: 5.875" W x 8.8" H (14.9 cm x 22.4 cm)

Restoration to front half of nose, with resurfacing and overpainting along break lines. Nicks and abrasions to feet, base, arms, and head, with fading to areas of original pigmentation, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits, root marks, and manganese deposits throughout.
