INDIAN RELIEF CARVED WOODEN DOOR PANEL C. 1900 H 8.5" L 27" THE HINDU GODDESS LAKSHMI She is shown as seated in Padmasana yogic posture, and has four arms. In each of her upper pair of arms, she carries a lotus, and the lower hands are generally shown in abhya and varadamudra. The elephants flanking her are shown as "lustrating" her, pouring water from their trunk over the goddess. two attendants and six guards. Size of complete plank including uncarved border is 28.7" x 9.2".
Condition
Good condition. Finely carved. Extremely heavy. The verso of the plaque shows signs of being hand sawn. The sides show evidence of the use of a circular saw to reduce. jjw
