Description
This lot consists of an unframed ink illustration on paper, done in the distinctive cartoon style of Bill Watterson (American, 1958 - ). Handwritten ink inscription at bottom right reads, "Watterson". This charming image depicts Calvin, a young boy in a striped shirt, and Hobbes, the sardonic tiger, from "Calvin and Hobbes", an iconic comic strip by Bill Watterson. Overall dimensions approximately 10" x 11.5".
Bill Watterson (American, 1958 - ) was born in Washington, D.C. He was a political cartoonist for a college publication during the late 1970s, which led to a position as an editorial cartoonist for the Cincinnati Post. Eventually, Watterson abandoned political cartoons for his first love: comics. "Calvin and Hobbes" became a smashing success for Watterson, endearing him to millions of weekly readers for a full decade.
