Description
This lot consists of an unframed acrylic painting on loose canvas. Done in the modern style of Cubist artist Rufino Tamayo (Mexican, 1899-1991). There's an inscription written by hand at lower right. This richly colored image depicts a black dog and a pale white crescent moon. The forms are surrounded by referential shape and line that add to the soft focus of this gorgeous piece. A true highlight to any collector's gallery. This unframed piece measures approximately 15.75" x 22".
Rufino Tamayo (Mexican, 1899-1991) was born in Oaxaca de Juarez, Mexico, the son of a seamstress and a shoemaker. As a young orphan, Tamayo was influenced early on by his Zapotec ancestry. RufinoTamayo, along with other muralists such as Diego Rivera, Jose Clemente Orozco, and David Alfaro Siqueiros, came to define the twentieth century in Mexican art. He is known for combining modern European painting styles with the most powerful tenets of Mexican folk art.
