Description
This lot consists of an unframed acrylic painting on canvas. Done in the modern style of Cubist artist Rufino Tamayo (Mexican, 1899-1991). "Tamayo" is written by hand at lower right.This richly colored image features four black and red hands reaching toward one another. The forms are surrounded by referential shape and line that add to the soft focus of this gorgeous piece. A true highlight to any collector's gallery. This unframed piece measures approximately 17.25" x 23.75".
Rufino Tamayo (Mexican, 1899-1991) was born in Oaxaca de Juarez, Mexico, the son of a seamstress and a shoemaker. As a young orphan, Tamayo was influenced early on by his Zapotec ancestry. RufinoTamayo, along with other muralists such as Diego Rivera, Jose Clemente Orozco, and David Alfaro Siqueiros, came to define the twentieth century in Mexican art. He is known for combining modern European painting styles with the most powerful tenets of Mexican folk art.
