A fine map of Asia, with strong and original hand coloring, and offering much detail. The Birman Empire is marked to the East of India, reflecting a time when Burma was on the rise, supported by Britain. In China, the Great Wall is shown. The top of Australia (here New Holland) is depicted, the western section of it (called van Dieman's Land) not quite accurate, nor is New Guinea. Map also depicts areas such as 'Independent Tartary', while the Middle East is split between Turkey, Arabia, and Persia. The extent of the Empire of Jenghis Khan in 1226 is indicated, and also that of Tamerlane in 1406. Surrounding text contains interesting insights. Updated from the 1817 map. Drawn by J. Aspin; from the third edition of Lavoisne’s Atlas published 1821 by M. Carey. Repaired small centerfold split at bottom and a wrinkle in the extreme lower left corner (as published), otherwise excellent condition. Map frame is 12.25 x 12.5 (sheet size 17.5 x 21.5).
