Three George III String Inlaid Mahogany Tea Caddies
Late 18th/early 19th century
H: 6, W: 9 3/4, D: 5 1/2 in. (largest)
PROVENANCE:
The Estate of a Prominent Philadelphia Lady.
Condition
All: with light surfaces and wear to exterior, commensurate with age and use.
Largest caddy: regular splitting to surface, occassional cracks, some warping to lid, one ball foot reattached, interior lining degraded, stain and cracks to leather lining under lid, no key present. Caddy with floral marquetry to lid: one big split to lid, damage to one corner of lid with missing piece of string inlay, repair to parquetry design, no key present, lock set to locked position so lid does not completely close, interior lining degraded, both lids to tea compartments warped, one lid knob reattached and likely replaced. Smallest caddy: wood slightly faded from sun exposure, some possible water damage to one side, damage to wood around lock with one small repair, no key present, interior linings degraded, several two of the tea compartments with detached corner supports for lid.
