Rare document which includes the first mention of California in the newly independent México under Augustin Iturbide. The "fondos piadoso de las misiones de California" [i.e. the Pious Fund] is in a sorry state. The administrator is ordered to present accounts, and he needs to travel to reorganize the administration of the "haciendas" at his charge and send a report. As for Texas, it mentions that 300 families of "luisianenses" (Louisianans) have asked permission to settle in Tejas. Dated and signed at end: Me?xico 8 de marzo de 1822 ... Jose? Manuel de Herrera.
