**First Time At Auction**
East Asia, Japan, Edo period, ca. 1615 to 1868. A sweet carved wooden male tomb attendant with a characteristically elongated body donning a traditional long robe and holding an offering bowl in his hands. The naturalistic modeling of the figure's facial contours is quite striking as are the drapery folds and details of his robe. This attendant was likely part of a group of figures. Size: 7" L x 4" W x 15" H (17.8 cm x 10.2 cm x 38.1 cm)
Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired before 2000

Condition
Figure is removable from stand. Abraded area on front of figure, possibly where ornaments were previously attached. Expected chips and nicks to stand, as well as some nicks to figure, especially around periphery. Otherwise, very nice with great remaining pigment and encrustations in recessed areas.
