**First Time At Auction**
Ancient Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. Two mold-formed faience amulets with suspension holes situated along the top of the dorsal pillars. The first figure depicts Tawaret (also Tauret), the hippopotamus-headed goddess of fertility and child birthing, with faint remains of blue-green glaze. The larger figure depicts Anubis, the jackal-headed god of the dead and the process of embalming, covered in lustrous blue-green glaze. Size of largest (Anubis): 0.4" W x 1.125" H (1 cm x 2.9 cm)
Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-Horatio and Patsy Melas collection, Switzerland, acquired before 1967 in Alexandria, Egypt

Condition
Tawaret amulet repaired across midsection with small chips and very light adhesive residue along break lines. Anubis amulet has one stable fissure across upper body but is intact. Both pieces have softening to some figurative details and light encrustations. Fading to glaze pigment on Tawaret amulet commensurate with age. Great remains of glaze pigment on Anubis amulet.
