1824 "Marquis de Lafayette" Portrait Rare Playing Card
1824, Hand-colored Original "Lafayette" Playing Card, printed by Jazaniah Ford, Milton, MA, Crisp Near Mint.
Playing Card Printed by Jazaniah Ford, Milton, MA, 3.5" x 2.5". The original 52 card deck was issued to honor the Marquis de Lafayette on his return Tour to the United States in 1824. The same court cards featured on the Decatur Cards are repeated, although new plates were obviously used as the subjects are in finer detail. The Ace of Spades has a beautiful Handcolored portrait of Lafayette, who was the French hero of the American Revolution. Listed in the "Hochman Encyclopedia of American Playing Cards," page 217, as illustration W3.
