Ancient Seas, Middle Miocene to end of Pliocene eras, ca. 28 to 1.5 million years ago. Two impressive fossilized megalodon teeth from a prehistoric shark. These teeth both have matte roots with gray and beige surfaces from the fossilization process. The enamel of the larger tooth has been polished to a glassy surface that shows off the black layers beneath the glossy gray edges. The other tooth has a rounded tip and retains most of the serrations. The enamel has been left unpolished and boasts the natural reflective properties of its surface that has developed from the fossilization process. These two teeth nicely compliment each other with their polished and natural states. Megalodons were among the largest predators the ocean ever saw, but their teeth are the only parts that have survived since their cartilage bodies could not fossilize. Interestingly, medieval people believed that these strange teeth were moon rocks or dragon's tongues!
