Originally published in 1651, Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘Trattato della Pittura’ or ‘Treatise on Painting’ is a collection of notes and writings on painting. The main focus of this treatise was to convey that painting was a science and not just an artform. (Greenberg, 259). Da Vinci disucsses the state of human emotion in art and incorporates the depictions of those emotions in his art.
This 1820 Geneva edition includes notes and observations of Gault de Saint-German and includes 44 illustrations of Da Vinci sketches and art.
