ENGLISH STAFFORDSHIRE HAND-PAINTED FLAT BACK CERAMIC MARKET FIGURES, LOT OF TWO, each standing on oval base with bright polychrome enamel decorations, comprising a pair of fishmongers including a man with knee high boots, his left arm resting on a basket of fish with a net wrapped around his shoulders and a woman with a net full of fish, each embossed "8" to underside, and a fruit carrying pair, both man and woman having a basket of grapes at their feet. Third quarter 19th century. 10 1/4" to 13 3/4".
Mostly undamaged, each having moderate crazing with some minor losses to enamel decorations; woman grape carrier with possible paint touch-ups. Each having manufacturing flaws, including firing separations and glazed over flakes, as made.
