Description
**Originally Listed At $500**
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. An intriguing anthropomorphic figure, hollow-built from terracotta, depicting a seated figure with a severely hunched back. The figure sits with bent legs while grasping one knee with both hands, and petite shoulders trace inwards to a thick neck. The expressive visage is composed of coffee-bean-shaped eyes, a slightly-crooked nose, a rounded chin beneath puffy lips, and a tall forehead, all topped with a simple, red-painted head band which is knotted behind the head. The highly-burnished figure is covered with pale-orange slip and is a wondrous example of ancient shaft-tomb pottery! Size: 6.3" W x 10" H (16 cm x 25.4 cm).
This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and all but the head has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.
