Description
A very Fine \"Nkisi\" magic fetish idol with metal studs embedded into the face and hand hammered metal plates set as a crown around the head, a metal and animal hide collar adorn the sculpture as well. The Songye regarded the wood figure as merely a shell, activated to full power only by the addition of bishimba, the sacred medicine composed of animal, plant, and mineral substances chosen for their magical properties. Songye peoples, DRC/ Congo, central Africa. The figure measures 13.5 inches tall, 15.5 inches on professional custom display stand.Provenance: Ex. McConnell Collection, VA. Ex.
