Description
Old Kuba sword iron sword with wooden handle embellished with cowrie shells and raised zoomorphic designs, along with an old woven textile sheath. Also called Ilondo - this type of sword was the Original Kuba war sword carried by the Iyol or Warrior's society members which began to vanish by the 1940's being replaced by a Luba-style sword. This is a fine *possibly 19th century example with the original carrying bag. Kuba peoples, Congo / DRC , central Africa. The sword measures 24 x 4 inches. Provenance: Ex. Reinhold Collection, NY.
