"Corcovi" and signature in pen. Hand carved wood with "maque" finish (pre-hispanic process involving numerous applications of natural earth and insect pigments and oils applied with the palm of the hand that hardens into a brilliant lacquer like surface). Victoriano Salgado (1920 - 2012) produced 60 different wooden mask designs. His masks were used in regional traditional dances in Uruapan, Michoacan, Mexico. His first masks were made in about 1950. Excellent condition; possible "ding" to one beard tip.10.5" H x 7" W x 4.5" D approx.
